Snowshoeing is becoming a very popular sport. It has been called the “new downhill skiing”! The EcoLodge, in Algonquin Park, Ontario, is the perfect place to try this fun sport, or challenge yourself to further levels if you are experienced with snowshoeing. The snow is regularly waist deep, so the only way to travel through the bush is with a pair of snowshoes.
At the Algonquin Wilderness EcoLodge we have 3 dedicated snowshoe trails, right from our front door. You can do them on your own, or hook up with one of our snowshoeing guides for a guided trek. And, if you are feeling adventurous, you can go “bushwhacking” anywhere! Surrounded with soft, deep snow you will be thankful that you have your faithful snowshoes along! In fact, the snow around the Ecolodge gets so deep that when we were trying to find new dogsledding trails we couldn’t even get a Ski-Doo through the deep snow. Before a dog sled or snowmobile could use the trail we had to hike it in snowshoes first!
Snowshoeing is a great way to stay fit. It works your leg muscles, your lower back, your heart and your lungs. Yet it is very easy on your joints, making snowshoeing a sport that everyone can enjoy. For an easy hike just stay on one of our marked snowshoe trials that loops behind the EcoLodge, and for a more vigorous workout simply step off the path and make your own trail! Either way, once you return to the Ecolodge the outdoor hot tub and sauna will be waiting for you! What better way to spend some quality time in Algonquin Park?
The Algonquin Eco-Lodge offers special weekend snowshoe packages. The “Path of the Snow Walker” is a self guided snowshoe adventure that includes the snowshoe rentals, a GPS rental, and lessons on how to use both. And, of course, your meals and accommodations as well as the hot tub and sauna, are included!
