Canoeing in Algonquin Park. A perfect day trip from the Eco-Lodge
The EcoLodge is ideally located for doing day trips by canoe in Algonquin Park. With easy access to the York River, you can spend the day paddling up to High Falls or Gut Rapids. Another alternative is to take the very little used Mink Creek down to the York River. Since you have to cross numerous beaver damns you are almost guaranteed to spot a few beaver. Please note that there is a small charge to rent the canoes and life jackets. The start of this trip is only about a 10 minute walk from the EcoLodge. In fact, our lake drains into this river system, but you can’t start paddling from the EcoLodge because there is a waterfall in the way!
For a little more relaxed paddling, or even to learn how to canoe for the first time, the EcoLodge lake is very quiet and easy to paddle. We’ll be more than happy to give you some private canoeing instruction to get you safely on your way. We have a couple canoes on our lake that are free of charge on a “first come, first served” basis.
