This unique programme is designed to provide you with highly skilled instruction in outdoor photography, and the opportunity to use these skills on an exciting Dog Sledding adventure!
Come join us at the Algonquin Wilderness Eco-Lodge for four days of in-field photography led by Kevin Spreekmeester. Because the Eco-Lodge is environmentally friendly and without electricity, learning will be strictly on a practical, in-field basis. We also know how the fresh winter air and an evening hot tub and fire can make you sleepy, so we won't bore you with extended slide shows.

There will plenty of time to discuss photography with Kevin, from how to get published, to how to create assignments, to the elements of good photography or just simple talk about creating photographs.
Don't forget, that during your visit you will also be experiencing some of Canada's premier wilderness, and seeing places that inspired the Group of Seven.
While dog sledding, you will be two to a sled, so one person can always be looking for that "perfect shot". You will be accompanied by professional guides, and Kevin will be providing photographic instruction "on the mush". You will spend 4-6 hours a day exploring the wild forests and twisting bush trails of the Algonquin region. In the evening you will be free to explore the area with snowshoes, talk "shop" with Kevin or the dog sled guides, or relax in the outdoor, wood fired hot tub or sauna. Real wilderness comforts! The last day of the programme has an added feature - a visit to a Wolf Research Centre. Here, from an Observation Room, you will be able to watch and photograph a pack of semi-wild wolves that live in a 15 acre compound.
This program will be well suited for shutterbugs ranging from beginner to advanced amateur. You will need your own camera, 35mm or digital. Bring lots of film (we recommend 5 rolls per day, mostly ISOs 50 and 100 but do bring some faster films ISO 400 and 800 in the event that we can do some evening shooting), some large clear plastic bags, rubber bands and lots of batteries if your camera needs them. Always have a tripod at the ready and if you can, wrap the legs with piping insulation to keep your hand warmer while carrying it.
The Eco-Lodge has 17 rooms, holding up to 40 people. It has indoor plumbing and "jerry can" style hot showers, so no need to worry about "going" outside! Power for the lighting and heat, and even the outdoor hot tub and sauna, are provided by alternative energy sources.
When preparing for this trip don't forget to bring your camera, a positive spirit, a sense of adventure, and a willingness to create stunning photographs!
