Lodge Manager

This job is suited to an individual who can work independently, has a good work ethic, likes people, and loves nature. As you will be on your own for some periods of time and then nearly over run with a chaotic schedule of arriving/departing guests you must be very adaptable and calm minded. This position is a unique opportunity to work in the Canadian wilderness.

You will be responsible for the day to day running of the Eco-Lodge. You will have to deal with guests, staff, animals, the building, machines, and the general smooth operation of the business.

Please note that you will be living in a remote location with no phone, cell service, TV, or internet access. You are 300 km from Toronto or Ottawa, and the nearest town is a 45 minute drive away.

Duties:

  1. Meet and greet guests.
  2. Oversee staff duties and their schedules.
  3. Help staff where required.
  4. Ensure rooms are prepared for guest arrival.
  5. Collecting money from guests, keeping receipts and petty cash organized.
  6. Scheduling vehicle use for trips to the dump and town for groceries and laundry.
  7. Helping to serve meals.
  8. Grooming trails using a chainsaw and a brushsaw.
  9. Ensure that the lodge is clean.
  10. Dealing with tourists questions about the area, wildlife, etc.
  11. Organizing the bonfire at night, and teaching guests about the local wolf pack and other flora and fauna.
  12. Liaise with owner on a daily schedule,.
  13. When the Lodge is not busy it is expected that you will use your initiative to do other jobs that constantly need doing, like painting, stacking firewood, trail grooming, etc.
  14. Maintain spa equipment.

Qualifications:

These are the ideal qualities we are looking for, but if you can meet most of them we can provide some "on the job" training for anything you don't have.

  1. You must be friendly and "in a good mood" all the time.
  2. Previous wilderness accommodation/camp management experience. Three years minimum.
  3. Basic First Aid & CPR.
  4. You must be highly adaptable and be able to "think on your feet".
  5. You must have a valid drivers license and having your own vehicle is an asset, though not required.
  6. English, German, and Russian spoken (we have many north/east European guests).
  7. Chainsaw experience.
  8. Must be able to drive an ATV and a snowmobile.
  9. Spa experience, as we transition to a full featured spa in spring and fall.
  10. Knowledge of plants and animals in Algonquin Park, and ability to instruct tourists about same flora and fauna.

Pay:

The pay is $600/week. This job includes your meals and accommodations at the lodge. A schedule will be worked out so that you get one day off every week.

A schedule will be worked out so that you get a day off every week during the summer, and depending on our schedules you may be able to go on a multi-day canoe trip or two, into the interior of Algonquin Park.
