The Algonquin landscape beckons as the solitude of winter presents stunning photographic opportunities at every glance. The soft pastel light of this 4th season reveals images that are only experienced during this time of year, by those with warm jackets, good boots and a love of hot chocolate. Join Kevin Spreekmeester and Rob Stimpson as they guide you through this workshop of creativity. Experience this and the charm of a rustic lodge, home cooked meals, all nestled in the Algonquin forest.

Outline: Students should have a working knowledge of their camera and what all the controls do. The course will focus on the winter landscape - getting the image you want. Developing your personal vision, learning to see is one of the key elements we will examine. You will work on creating images, evaluating light and deciding what is the best way to render the scene. Slideshows in the evenings will compliment the workshop. These will help the student better understand the different situations and how to deal with them.

Clothing: Please bring the appropriate clothes for the weather. Warm boots are a must as well as a hat, mittens and long underwear. Light fleece gloves work well when operating the camera. Sunglasses and sunscreen are also necessary as strong reflections off the snow can cause sunburns.
Activities: We will take full advantage of the winter season, but not to the point that the lessons of photography are lost to the exhaustion of a difficult walk through challenging conditions. This program is designed to explore your winter eye, not to challenge poor, atrophied winter muscles. There will be plenty to do in the outdoors including optional dog-sledding (please let us know seven days in advance if you would like to book a half day of dog-sledding). There is also a wonderful wood-burning hot tub on the premises so bring your swimsuit and good cheer.
